Toby Turns Four

Toby turned four yesterday.

Four years ago he was born in a litter of black puppies where he’s the only apricot-coloured one from the lot. Sad, lonely and unable to fit in with his different coloured siblings he was happy to sit in the corner of the pet shop and watched the world go by. Rather unfortunately my then-girlfriend Michele fancied Toby and thought he’s a real charmer. An expensive purchase later this furry runt has now become a permanent fixture in our lives.

It’s hard to believe we’ve had the company of Toby for that long; He was only six weeks old when he was purchased. Most times he’s mainly left to his own devices and the hustle and bustle of our lives mean we tend to neglect playing with him. But the trusty friend he is, loyal to us unto death. Never once does he complain. All he needs is to be fed daily, being close to us and being rubbed on his head.

This year I thought I’ll go with the fresh route, what with last few birthdays inspired by the junk food theme. A large cut of beef for Toby and he scoffed it down in five minutes without thorough chewing. Where are your manners Toby!?

Happy Birthday Toby. You might have been relegated from the Top Dog position at home, but you are always our family dog.
